Kigo Kokuu (こくう　穀雨), or Grain rain, is one of the 24 solar terms (にじゅうよんせっき　二十四節気).
Kanji 穀 means "grain," "seed," or "food."
Kanji 雨 means "rain."
Therefore, kanji 穀雨 literally means "Grain rain."
Grain rain comes after clear bright (せいめい　清明) in the solar term system.
Grain rain is warm and soft, so people believe the rain promotes the growth of seeds. It is the signal to sow seeds in the soil bed.
