Meaning
Kigo Seimei (せいめい 清明), or Clear bright, is one of the 24 solar terms (にじゅうよんせっき 二十四節気).
Kanji 清 means "clear," "clean," or "fresh."
Kanji 明 means "light," "bright," or "evident."
Therefore, kanji 清明 literally means "clear bright."
Seimei comes after Vernal equinox (しゅんぶん 春分) in the 24 solar terms system.
"Pure water" or "clean air" are good examples for this kigo. For beginners, it is best to focus on "time" and "place" when writing a haiku. Try expanding your ideas to "where to drink water" or "when to inhale clean air."
The next solar term after Clear bright is Grain Rain. Plant seeds are rehydrated before germination. The season goes on and the ecliptic longitude turns from 15 degrees to 30 degrees.
